Hey! So Glad You're Here.

Welcome to It's Lit Book Club! Thanks for stopping by to see what we're all about.

Power: physical strength and force exerted by someone or something

[as a modifier] used in the names of movements aiming to enhance the status of a specified group.

Throughout the timeline of history, reading and advanced education were prohibited in the African American community. Despite shackles of injustice, laws that prohibited advancing intellect, and stymied efforts to just live, our ancestors created ways, ethereal, divine ways, to transcend the times that they survived. Their stories live on in what we practice, see, and read - thus our connection to their power.

Through reading, we are able to connect with ourselves, our own community, and the communities around us.

It's Lit Book Club,  was founded to provide accountability and space for people that enjoy reading.

The goal is to expand the sense of community amongst participants, express higher sense of self in a safe space through conversation and holistic wellness practices, (i.e. affirmations and monthly activities) and expose our community members to authors with diverse backgrounds to amplify unheard voices.

Over the past two years, It's Lit (formerly PowHer Book Club) has read and discussed over 20 books of diverse genre. Our member base expands from Florida up to Northern Delaware! We hope that you remain connected with us.

As always, happy reading and stay true to your shelf!
